John Williams in concert was a B+ perfromance not an A+ because of venue distractions e.g. the LAPD flying helicopters overhead during the orchastras rendenton of the Asteroid Chase from "The Empire Strikes Back" exteamly distracting and... it just wasnt enough... after enduring the more obscure stuff Williams has done over his legendary career (no sarcasm intended) I was happy when he got to the more popular stuff but I was looking forward to riffs from Minority Report or Jurrasic Park or even a sneak at War Horse and... was dissapointed that there was no prequel stuff! There were bits from Jaws, a well-edited Western tribute, a Sci-fi fantasy, horror tribute which was very cool as well as seeing an ocean of lightsabers brought in by fans very nice.
Another issue I had with the concert was the audio I had decent seats but it wasnt loud enough for me I know its not THX its a concert at the Hollywood Bowl which is the best concert venue on Earth but his music played differently in real life as opposed to a DVD/Blu-Ray not the same acustic enjoyment. But what I did enjoy was when JW took the mike and narrated the opening chase scene from "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" with no music simply talking about where the music went and then played the scene agin with the LA philharmonic Orchestra... giving the lucky audience an interesting glimpse into the hardwork and genius it takes to fill in the uninteresting bits of cinema with the perfect score... seeing JW is well worth the price of admission and the ultimate date night there was an ocean of beautiful woman in attendance that night at the Hollywood Bowl.
